In-House Diagnostic Tests for Cottage Country's Cats & Dogs
At Muskoka Bay Animal Clinic,, our well-equipped veterinary diagnostics lab allows our team to diagnose a wide range of health problems, from kidney disease and diabetes to parasites, quickly and efficiently so that your pet's treatment can begin as soon as possible.
The detailed findings from your companion's diagnostic tests allow us to provide the targeted treatments your furry friend needs and deserves.
Diagnostic tests, like the ones featured below, give our team valuable insights into the overall health of cats and dogs, leading to more accurate and efficient treatment plans.
Our Diagnostic Services
- Radiography (Digital X-rays)
Radiographs are performed on-site and can often be conducted on the same day as your appointment. Radiographs may be done with or without sedation, depending on the needs of your pet.
Radiographs can be used for evaluating bones and organs, and diagnosing conditions such as chronic arthritis, broken bones, bladder stones, spinal cord diseases and select types of tumours.
- Ultrasound
Ultrasound imaging consists of exposing part of the pet's body to high-frequency sound waves in order to produce images of the inside of the body. Since we capture ultrasound images in real-time, we can see the structure and movement of your pet's internal organs, in addition to blood flowing through their blood vessels.
At Muskoka Bay Animal Clinic, we will arrange for an ultrasonographer to come to our clinic to perform the ultrasound for your pet. This ensures that you receive accurate and timely diagnostic imaging.
- Bloodwork
At our veterinary lab, we have the ability to run a number of targeted blood tests that help determine the overall health of your pet and pinpoint illnesses.
Some of the veterinary blood tests we perform on a regular basis include CBC (complete blood count), white blood count, hemoglobin and MCHC (mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration), hematocrit, platelets, eosinophils, and blood serum profile tests to evaluate kidney and liver function, blood sugar levels, and various other blood chemistries.
- Urinalysis
Urinalysis is primarily used to assess the health of your companion's kidneys and urinary tract system, but it can also help detect issues in other organ systems and is important for diagnosing metabolic diseases such as diabetes.
- Fecal Exams
A fecal exam is the microscopic examination of your pet's feces, which we send to an external lab for analysis.
The goal of a fecal exam is to diagnose and treat GI infections that have the potential to compromise your cat or dog's health and even be transmitted to humans. Fecals allow your veterinarian to detect intestinal parasites in your pet such as roundworms or hookworms.
In-House Veterinary Pharmacy
Once we determine your pet's condition, your veterinarian can prescribe and supply the medications that help resolve or manage it.
When it's time to renew your pet's prescription, please contact us. We require at least 48 hours notice to order and prepare medications. Once your pet's medicine is ready, we will notify you so you can pick it up at your convenience.
